UCN Academic Book Review Rules

 

  1. The academic book review for UCN is open only to currently enrolled UCN students. 
  2. The book (e-book) must be in the UCN Libraries collection and not under review by another contest entrant. The student’s name and book title must be registered with the library staff to avoid duplication. To register, send an email to library@ucn.ca
  3. The book must be completely read and consist of a minimum of 150 pages of text.
  4. The review should be 1,000 to 1,200 words.
  5. The deadline to submit the review is April 7th, 2026. No exceptions. All submissions must be sent to library@ucn.ca
  6. When sending your completed book review, please include the following in the email subject line Book review_ First and last name. Further, use the following format when saving your work First and last name.
  7. The review should describe and evaluate a scholarly work by summarizing its content, analyzing its argument and methods, and assessing its contribution to its field.
  8. The review must be well written and with proper English grammar.
  9. The student reviewer may ask for assistance or advice from others, but the review must be the student’s own work.
  10. Winning reviews will be on display in the library along with the book. The reviews will also be posted on the UCN Libraries website.
  11. UCN students can do multiple reviews and enter more than once.
  12. Each title can only be reviewed and submitted once.
  13. There will prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries across the university as a whole. Entry winning order to be determined by the judging committee.

Quick Start:

  • Pick any library book, either physical or digital, and register both yourself and your book title by emailing library@ucn.ca -write a critical review of the book. Must be between 1000 -1,200 words.
  • The deadline for submissions is April 7th, 2026. All submissions must be sent to libary@ucn.ca
  • The 3 winners will be announced on April 30th, 2026 -Winning entries will be displayed in UCN Libraries as well as on our website.
  • All 3 winning entries will be awarded prizes.
