Standard 3 - Assessment
This standard focuses on alignment between assessment and learning outcomes. It emphasizes the use of a range of assessment tasks to measure student learning.
|
Design all assessments to align directly with the stated course learning outcomes, ensuring that each task measures what it is intended to assess.
Ensure that assessment methods and evaluation standards are consistent with those used in related program courses, contributing to a coherent student learning experience across the curriculum.
Where feasible, offer varied assessment methods (e.g., presentations, written assignments, case studies, projects, discussions) to allow students multiple ways to demonstrate their learning. Respect different strengths of students and cultural expressions of understanding.
Incorporate authentic assessments (e.g., case studies, real-world problems, simulations, proposals) that promote the application of knowledge and skills in meaningful contexts. Allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in ways that are relevant and meaningful to them or their communities.
Clearly communicate to students:
Provide clear and specific marking criteria for all assignments.
When appropriate, share sample submissions or models of past student work.
