Standard 3 - Assessment

This standard focuses on alignment between assessment and learning outcomes.  It emphasizes the use of a range of assessment tasks to measure student learning.

    1. Align Assessments with Learning Outcomes

Design all assessments to align directly with the stated course learning outcomes, ensuring that each

task measures what it is intended to assess.

    1. Support Coherence Across the Program

Ensure that assessment methods and evaluation standards are consistent with those

used in related program courses, contributing to a coherent student learning experience

           across the curriculum.

    1. Provide Diverse Opportunities for Demonstrating Learning

Where feasible, offer varied assessment methods (e.g., presentations, written assignments, case

studies, projects, discussions) to allow students multiple ways to demonstrate their learning.

Respect different strengths of students and cultural expressions of understanding.

    1. Use Authentic Assessment Practices

Incorporate authentic assessments (e.g., case studies, real-world problems, simulations, proposals)

that promote the application of knowledge and skills in meaningful contexts. Allow students to

demonstrate their knowledge and skills in ways that are relevant and meaningful to them or their

            communities.

    1. Communicate Assessment Details Clearly

            Clearly communicate to students:

  • Due dates for all summative assessments
  • How each assessment contributes to the final grade
  • Expectations for format, length/scope, submission, technology requirements, and deadlines

    1. Ensure Transparency Through Marking Criteria

Provide clear and specific marking criteria for all assignments.

  • Use rubrics for subjective assessments such as essays, presentations, projects, or creative work to clarify performance expectations and support consistency in grading.

    1. Use Exemplars to Guide Student Work

When appropriate, share sample submissions or models of past student work.

  • Ensure that samples reflect a variety of approaches and do not limit students' creativity or originality.

    1. Support Responsible and Ethical Academic Practice
  • Clearly outline expectations for academic integrity, including the responsible and ethical use of AI tools.
  • Educate students about responsible academic behavior. Support academic integrity through dialogue. Only use punitive measures as a final consequence of misconduct. of Follow guidelines and process of policy AC-01-28 Student Code of Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Provide guidance on what constitutes acceptable support or collaboration.
